In Matthew 25 there are two parables, made-up stories, and a prophecy from Jesus talking about the last days, all three are connected and must be read in context. I've been commenting on the parable of the talents of silver. My thesis is that Jesus wants those with various levels of ability to use those abilities to trade and create wealth. I've been arguing that capitalism is best suited to fulfill this vision.
He's the "why"
Matt 25:34“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
Of course, Jesus was not hungry or sick, he says that if you do this to the least of my brothers and sisters. Contextually he is talking bout those of faith, but we know Jesus wants us to help strangers who have no faith as well from the story of the Good Samaritan and others.
The reason God gives us the ability to create more than we need as individuals is to have extra to give to those who are in need. It's that simple. If you have the ability but are not in pursuit of extra, then you are being selfish. I'm not saying everyone has to start a business, what I am saying is every Christian should pursue having an abundance and more of what they need.
You can't legislate or coerce generosity. It's against human nature. Jesus compels His followers to live life honestly, work hard, multiply what they have been given, and voluntarily give to those in need. Capitalism helps us achieve this better than any other system created.
